Keith Gamble`s Art House Gatherings

Keith Gamble`s Art House Gathering? what is that! you may be asking. For 2012, I am starting an arts series of those things I love and enjoy. That`s right - I! Many of you (if not all) may be saying "who the hell are you?" I can understand that, but my answer to that question is I am my Mother`s son, and a believer of God who accepts Jesus as his savior; that`s who I am, and by the way - I`m a jazz saxophonist. Keith Gamble`s Art House Gatherings are going to be get-togethers where we eat, play and listen to music, drink coffee, and partake in the featured artistic event that has been planned. My gatherings will take place tri-annually: March, July, and November, with each gathering having a specific theme and activity.

Some of my gatherings will focus on one of my music students, or former students involved in the arts or humanities. Other gatherings will simply feature me in  post-bop/avant-garde jazz performance, with CDs for sell.

My first Keith Gamble`s Art House Gathering is scheduled for Saturday, March 10, 2012, at the Phoenix Cafe in Hazel Park, MI, at 8pm. This gathering is called "Bird", and will be celebrating the music of Charlie "Bird" Parker. This gathering celebrating  Charlie Parker will include coffee and cake, me playing pieces from Charlie Parker, the Clint Eastwood film "Bird", and a jam session following the movie. All this for only $6.00 at the door.

If you are interested in Charlie Parker check-out my October 11, 2011 blog called African American Art and Culture: The art music of Charlie Parker. That blog should give you some information on Charlie Parker, and hopefully motivate you to research Charlie Parker, and the bebop era. I hope to see you at my very first Keith Gamble`s Art House Gathering.

Adult learners of music

Many times in social settings when the discussion turns to - what do you do for a living? Of course my response is "I am a musician and independent music teacher". What follows are comments such as "I use to play the ...", or "I would love to play the ..., but am I too old to learn to the ...?" No! one is never too old to learn to play an instrument. I once had a violin student who was in her 80`s, and the joy she experienced learning and playing is one of the highlights in my career.

Currently I have adult students playing clarinet, flute, and saxophone. I registered a new adult flute student from my New Years Day perfromance with vocalist Janice Simon at St. Patrick Catholic Church, in Detroit. Many adults are truly interested. I have found adult learners take-up playing an instrument for their enjoyment and relaxation, but there are also adult students taking music lessons to enter into a career in music.

So adult, whether you are looking to take recreational music making (RMM), or music lessons to play on stage as an amateur or professional musician, it is never too late to take lessons.
